Poppy Seed Orange Bread


Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup TRK Dutch Poppy Seeds
  • ¾ cup milk
  • ¼ cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1½ tsp. grated orange peel
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. TRK Ground East/West Indies Nutmeg
  • ½ cup nuts, chopped
  • ½ cup dried cranberries or raisins (optional)

Preparation

Soak poppy seeds in milk for several hours. Cream butter and brown sugar. Add eggs and orange peel. Combine dry ingredients and add to butter mixture alternately with milk and poppy seeds. Stir in nuts and cranberries or raisins (if desired). Pour batter into greased 9 x 5 inch loaf pan. Bake at 350°F for 50-55 minutes..
